bespoke garden furniture & structures

It can be difficult to find appropriate or affordable ready-made furniture and/or garden structures. I can design these for you using a range of materials as appropriate to the design and budget available.

Example in image: Japanese-style Gazebo

I designed this for clients who wanted a subtle Japanese influence for their garden but no ’twee shrines’ and a garden that still related to its Oxfordshire setting. I based the design on the traditional Japanese house concept and used the Tatami mat as a base dimension, creating an open timber structure constructed from oak to root it in an English context. Sliding ‘Shoji’ screens provide some weather-proofing and sun screening.

Example in image: Built-in Arbour

For this exposed rooftop design I decided to treat the treat the 3.9 x 1.8m seating space as if it were on a yacht - compact yet functional, using varnished red cedar for an arbour and trellis to provide screening and all important wind-proofing. Built in benches contained storage lockers for seat cushions to save having to bring these in and out.
